The Foundations of Volunteer Recruitment and Succession Planning
Thursday 14th October 2021 14.00 – 16.30
Session time subject to change. This is an interactive online session – 7 places available.
About the session:
Do you want to re-invigorate your museum’s volunteer recruitment after the changes of the last 18 months? If so, this session is for you! Linda Brandish will take you through each stage in the process, from defining the task that needs doing and crafting your recruitment message, through to providing an appropriate, effective welcome and induction to new volunteers. You’ll learn how focused thinking and planning ahead can help you to successfully reach new volunteers. We will explore briefly how to start and sustain succession planning as well. This course will help you to build the skills and confidence you need to involve new people, skills and perspectives in your museum, better reflecting the communities around you.
By the end of this session:
- You will see how planning for volunteering is an integral part of your museum’s strategic decision-making
- You will understand that managing volunteers well starts with a solid base of policies and procedures – benefiting both the museum and the volunteers
- You will have thought hard about the role of volunteering in your museum and be readier to tackle succession planning
This SW Museum Skills session is delivered with National Lottery Heritage Funding as part of the Rebuilding the Foundations: Gloucestershire’s Museums project.
