About the session

This two-part course will discuss the ways in which museums can improve the care of their collections. It will include:

  • The main risks affecting museum collections
  • Practical ways to improve conditions for your collections
  • How to assess the situation in your museum and decide on priorities
  • How to create a Collection Care Plan to address your museum’s needs
  • Safe handling of museum objects
  • Appropriate materials to use with your objects and how to obtain them
  • Discussions about specific issues

Who should attend?

This session is suitable for anyone working in a museum (paid or volunteer) who wants to know how to look after and work with the collection and how to plan for its survival. No previous experience or training is necessary.

Delegates must attend both Part One (25th May) and Part Two (7th June 2022) of this course. Delegates are welcome to bring specific questions and issues to the session. If possible they should read their museum’s Collection Care & Conservation Policy and Plan before the session.
