The Business Diagnostic is a working model, developed by Museum Development teams across England, to help individual museums identify key areas for growth.
In 2020 the focus of the programme is working with museums in Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and the West of England as we complete our lottery funded Rural Proofing Resilience programme delivering to museums in Dorset, Somerset, Devon and Cornwall.
How it works:
We would work with you across your organisation, using a self-assessment framework, an in depth review of your forward plan, to gain an understanding of your strengths and to identify priorities and recommendations for your museums’ development.
In 2019 we worked with nine museum organisations and invested over £23,000 to respond to priority actions identified through the Business Diagnostic process.
Applications to the Business Diagnostic programme for 2020 are now closed.

The level of practical and technical advice support from SWMD has been invaluable. Rachel Cartwright, Digital Engagement Officer, helped with selection of the web designers and has been available throughout the design and build process. As we are all volunteers her approachability, professional knowledge and input has reassured those of us with no prior knowledge in this area. We have learned and immense amount and feel confident about managing the new website ourselves in a sustainable manner.
