Myth busting – reasons and steps to transfer to CIO
Thursday 11th February 2021 10.30 – 12.00
This will be a 1.5 hour online session via Zoom
About the session:
Incorporation either as a charitable company or a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) gives your charity its own legal identity – that identity no longer rests with the trustees, as it does in an unincorporated association or charitable trust, where contracts are entered into by trustees in their own name and the liability rests with them. This session describes the key features and benefits of transferring your charity to a CIO and takes you through the key steps you will need to take to do so. It will highlight where you may need professional legal input. The session will include a case study from a museum that has recently made the transition.
Who should attend?
This session is for trustees and management staff/ volunteers of independent museums.
