Museum Development England is running a national skills needs survey in February and March 2024. This is an opportunity for museums to tell us about their organisation’s skills development needs, and this insight will directly inform our training offer for 2024 to 2027. Our Skills Training programme is designed to help your museum and its workforce respond to the ever changing demands of the sector. By participating in the skills needs survey you can ensure that the programme remains relevant and agile in the face of future challenges.

Museums must register to take part in the survey, and registrations close on Friday 2 February at 5pm.

The survey is open to Accredited, Provisional and formally recognised Working Towards Accreditation museums excluding national museums in receipt of government funding, National Trust or English Heritage sites. National Portfolio Organisations are eligible to complete this survey and are encouraged to do so.

This survey is at an organisational level, rather than an individual level, which means that the museum professional completing it needs to be in a position to provide the skills development needs across their whole organisation, not just for themselves or their area of work.

Museums can respond as single site or as a multisite organisation only – this means if an organisation runs multiple museums they should respond as a multi-site rather than submitting multiple single site responses.

In order to register for the survey please contact us through [email protected], it only takes 10 minutes to register! You will not be able to participate in the survey without registering and late registrations will not be accepted. If you have any questions about the survey or what participation involves, please contact you local, please-based Museum Development Officer.

The national skills needs survey will be issued after registration has ended, and participating museums will have until Friday 22 March at 5pm to complete the survey.
