This month we’re celebrating all things green. We’re proud to publish highlights from our Green Action Plan, which sets out how we will mitigate the climate impact of our work. The climate emergency is the most significant challenge facing society today and the cultural sector has a responsibility to reduce its own carbon footprint. We are committed to action, leading by example. This plan is a first step on a journey, and we will continue to respond to new scientific research, changes in the law, and the events and changes we see in our society.
The Annual Museum Survey 2022 launched last month, and your participation will be invaluable to help us continue to evidence the social and economic value of museums. A big part of the 2022 survey is dedicated to gaining insights on the sector’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. If your museum participated in last year’s survey, or has registered for this year, you should have already received an email which includes your unique survey link. However, if you have not yet received one or are experiencing any issues opening it, please contact us at [email protected].
We’re hiring! We’re looking for someone with significant experience of working in the museum sector to join our small and ambitious team as a Museum Development Officer (MDO) for the area of Devon (including Plymouth and Torbay). The role is hybrid working involving a mix of homeworking (within the historic county boundary of Devon) along with frequent travel across Devon, with monthly attendance at the SWMD office at Bristol Museum and Art Gallery and the opportunity for a ‘hot desk’ at The Box in Plymouth. Applications close at midnight on 21 July 2022. Apply here.
We are also thrilled to introduce two new members of the South West Museum Development team. Pat Janus joins as our new Data and Research Assistant, while Marina Moore steps in as our Audience Development Officer while Rachel Miller is on maternity leave. Welcome Pat and Marina!
Finally, we have our usual round-up of news, specialist support and grant opportunities, including a brand-new regular green newsletter feature: Green Action.
