We have recently welcomed Sarah Cheers and Jess Hoare as the latest members of the South West Museum Development Strategic Advisory Group.

The Strategic Advisory Group aims to guide the work of the team by providing informed advice. Their primary concern is to ensure that the needs of the South West’s extensive museum sector are understood and fulfilled. This means listening to the sector and helping South West Museum Development add value to what happens on the ground.

Sarah CheersSarah Cheers has held senior external engagement positions across the cultural, higher education and charity sectors, most recently at Tate and University College London. Through her roles and as a consultant, Sarah has led teams to design and deliver innovative, incoming generating and strategic stakeholder activities to ensure their long-term feasibility within a changing external landscape. Sarah has recently returned to the South West and is personally passionate about enabling access to high-quality cultural experiences in the area.

Jess HoareJess Hoare has worked at the intersection of public arts and technology since 2013 and collaborated with leading public institutions across the UK including Tate, National Trust, Arts Council England, Arts Council Wales, National Theatre Wales, Shakespeare’s Globe, the Guardian and the British Council. She ran the Digital Innovation Fund for Wales on behalf of the Welsh Government and NESTA. In addition, she has written for numerous publications including Wired, Arts Professional, Bust as well as The Interpretation Matters Handbook (Black Dog, 2015) and contributed peer-reviewed articles to the International Journal of Heritage Studies. Jess is currently the Digital Innovation Lead at Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales. This role aims to extend and develop the already meaningful, informative, fun, surprising, and challenging experiences of visitors through emergent forms of digital media and well-planned audience research.

Both new Strategic Advisory Group members will be bringing unique perspectives and experiences to the table, which will address the changing needs of museums in the South West’s museum sector.
