Support Organisations

The following networks, organisations and websites provide essential information to support Volunteer Managers.

The South West Museum Volunteering Forum is run by South West Museum

Development as a community of practice for those with volunteer involvement as a key

part of their role.

The National Council for Voluntary Organisations offers support, consultancy and

opportunities on a range of topics. Membership is free for charities with Annual Income

less than £30,000.

This is the NCVO information  and resource bank, providing information on all aspects of

volunteer management.

Do-It is an online database where museums can register and advertise volunteering

opportunities for free and connect with potential volunteers.

Volunteers Week is an annual celebration of volunteering activity each June, celebrated

online as well as celebration events around the country.

The AVM is an independent membership body that supports, represents and champions

people in volunteer management in the UK.

Toolkits

Use these toolkits to develop best practice in volunteer management, with case studies, templates and guides you can adapt and put into practice in your own museum

Voluntary Arts 2016

    This toolkit supports small and medium-sized organisations to improve the support they

offer volunteers, including volunteer management checklists, case studies and guidance.

    IWM North and Manchester Museum 2016

This guide was developed as part of a volunteering, training and placement programme

across 10 heritage venues in Greater Manchester. It provides guidance on setting up and

delivering socially engaged volunteer programmes.

Volunteer Centre Finder

NCVO has a network of accredited Volunteer Centres that spans the country.

These provide support to potential volunteers and organisations working with volunteers.
